The Walking Journal Club

For February Heart Month, join the Walking Journal Club and make a New Year's Resolution you can keep! Exercise builds heart strength and stimulates creativity. Join us for a program that will stimulate your physical and creative centers. Over 4 weeks we will develop a walking and yoga/gentle stretching program together with a journaling component that will keep you motivated for the rest of the year. Journals and hot cups of tea provided!

Taking a good hard look at failure can be a very healthy part of the creative process. In this workshop, explore how NOT avoiding the unsavoury bits can help you confront perfectionism, overcome creative block, and simply have fun making stuff.
Kim Werker is a writer, editor, author of crochet books, blogger, speaker and crafter. Through her project Mighty Ugly, she celebrates the failures that drive creativity and make people fascinating.

Get your friends together for a fun evening of wine tasting and painting! Kathleen Rake, wine writer, wine blogger and wine lover, takes us to Spain with a tasting of 3 wines. You'll get a full glass to savour as you create a still life painting with artist Desneige Meyer, inspired by the rich colours and fluid textures of our wines. First time and experienced painters alike will enjoy this quick and fun painting process using monochromatic acrylics.

The Art of Stress Management for Educators

This professional development workshop focuses on some simple, creative strategies to help you manage the stress in your life and in your classroom.
Mindfulness and yoga - refocus your personal energy and the energy of your students.  Learn some simple mindfulness techniques and standing poses to use at home for relaxation or in the classroom to fulfill the Daily Physical Activity requirements.
Experimenting with art and color - using The Reach exhibits for inspiration, create your own colourful work of art and then inspire your students to create their own images to use for cards and gifts.

Finger Weaving - Outreach at Matsqui Recreation Centre


with textile artist Dehlia Simper
All you need to bring for this class are your fingers! Create your own sashes by learning this ancient warp faced technique that pre-dates loom weaving. Finger weaving, also known as flat braiding has been found worldwide but is best known in North America as 'The Assumption sash', 'Ceinture  Fleche' or traditional Métis sash when it gained popularity as a trade item during the time of the fur trade. Learn step by step the different finger weaving patterns from a simple diagonal weave to a more complicated interlocking lightening pattern. Includes all  supplies.
