The November C3 at The Reach features the president of a local cabinet company to a noon Holiday concert!

Abbotsford, BC – The mostly free public Culture, Coffee & Cookies (C3) at The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford in November, features the president of long time local cabinet manufacturer to a fabulous Holiday season concert with Fraser Valley musicians.

 

The month starts on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 10:30am with Hans Kruger, President of Columbia Cabinet Cabinets Ltd, will talk about Cabinets, Community, Choir. He will provide a brief overview of the 47 year history and life of Columbia Cabinets in Abbotsford, and its impact on our community and the world at large including the caring support they provide locally and abroad. A talented choir musician and conductor, Hans Kruger, will also share his love for, and how they have been able to invest some of their profits to support the arts in and around the Fraser Valley.

 

On November 8th at 10:30am, local historian and professor, Molly Unger, will address Don’t You Know There’s a War On? – Canadian War Art in World War II. During World War II, Canadians were surrounded by visual representations of all aspects of the conflict, including war posters, war advertising, official war art and unofficial war art. Unger’s illustrated talk will provide examples of these many visions of the war, and how Canadians reacted to them.

 

On November 15th at 10:30am, it’s publisher Kerry Coast on Self-Publishing. She will cover this new age of digital and on-demand book publishing: e-books (SmashWords, Amazon), local printers (Perfect Bound; Saddle Stitch; Coil Bound), online publishing houses (Lulu; Book Baby; Createspace/Amazon), layout and cover design, publication data (ISBN, Legal Deposit), the importance of editors along with websites, blogging and marketing

 

Come November 22 at 10:30am, the shift is to Cathy Ace and her My Life of Crime: 5 Years’ Hard Labour. This traditionally published author of twelve novels, all crime fiction, for the past five years, Ace is now in the fortunate position of having had a BC Bestseller, and winning a national Canadian writing prize. Find out why she’s currently turning back to self-publishing, and grill her on it.

And what better way to launch into the Christmas season than hosting a ticketed Lunchtime Holiday Concert – Song for a Winter’s Night on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 12 noon in the great hall at The Reach. Former teacher and principal, and veteran of the music/performing arts scene locally and the Greater Vancouver area, Cathy Merkel will lead this special concert. Merkel, who also studied opera in Italy this past summer, will be joined by Mel Bowker on piano, Paul Horban on bass guitar, and Larry Galloway on tenor sax. They will wow you with a variety of holiday classics, sharing musical stylings that include from a snappy Boots Randolph version of Silver Bells, Karen Carpenter’s Merry Christmas Darling, to Gordon Lightfoot’s Song for a Winter’s Night. Advance tickets to the noon holiday concert with coffee and cookies at The Reach are only $10 per person.
