The Reach hosts two stimulating one-hour C3 – Culture, Coffee & Cookies presentations onsite this month at 32388 Veterans Way, Abbotsford

On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at 10:30 am, Laura Schneider, the executive director and curator of The Reach will take you on a personal Curator’s Tour of the new Winter/Spring exhibitions! Mark Neufeld’s exhibition, The Projectionist, brings together objects from The Reach’s historical collections to explore cinematic histories, settler narratives, gender roles, and museum artifacts as sites of contested value. Schneider’s tour will also touch on visual artist Erica Grimm’s Salt Water Skin Boats, an inter-arts project created in collaboration with acclaimed sound artist Sheinagh Anderson and artist/arborist Tracie Stewart, and it will finish with Christopher Friesen’s exhibitions Search by Image.

January 31 at 10:30 am, get ready for Missing, Murder Suspected: A True Crime Trilogy with author Ed Stone. This crime novel is based around a trilogy of true criminal events. The first, ‘Love and Hate amongst the Chickens’ was publicly known as ‘The Chicken Run Murder‘ of 1924, where John Norman Thorne murdered his fiancé Elsie Cameron. The second, ‘A House of Horror’ was based on a crime known as ‘The Buck Ruxton Jig-Saw Murders of 1935’ and involves the double murders by Dr. Buck Ruxton of his wife Isabella and her nursemaid Mary Rogerson. The third, ‘Four Sacks for a Shroud’ is about the ‘Luton Sack Murder‘ of 1943, where, during WW2, a London fireman, Bertie Manton was driven into a killing rage by his wife Rene.
