Taking its name from the Halq’eméylem word meaning “we transform it,” this exhibition is catalyzed by the Reel Change Indigenous Film Series, hosted by The Reach between October 2018 and July 2019. A group of 14 artists, writers, and thinkers were invited to select, attend, and respond to films in the series through the creation of new work in their chosen medium. Though these respondents hail from a range of creative, scholarly, and professional backgrounds, they are connected through their Stó:ló heritage and/or the contributions they have made to culture in Stó:ló territory. As a result, this unique project marks and celebrates the significant and ongoing contributions to contemporary culture being made by creative Indigenous innovators, particularly here in Stó:ló territory.
