Extended to June 14, 2020 at 11:59 pm

Figure 1. Float Inspiration for theme “My Favourite Thing About Abbotsford.” This float is inspired by “Watching Canadian geese fly over Mill Lake” but the possibilities for inspiration are endless!

We’re inviting everyone to make a home-made parade float on the theme of: My Favourite Thing About Abbotsford. Submit a photo of your float and it will be featured in a collaborative video that will premiere on July 1 for Canada Day! In the video, only your first name and your age will appear alongside the photo of your float.

Use a shoebox to build your float or “think outside the box”! You could:

  • decorate a plastic toy car or truck
  • decorate a wagon
  • bedazzle a bicycle
  • dress up in a costume
  • dress your pet in a costume
  • anything else you can think of!

To contribute to the virtual parade, email 1 – 3 high resolution photos (each photo should be landscape and at least 1MB in size) of your float along with our online submission form to Curator of Learning and Community Engagement, Diana Hiebert at dhiebert@thereach.ca by June 14 at 11:59 pm.

Your submission package must include the following:

  • In the subject box of the email write: “Submission to the Community-Wide Shoebox Parade!”
  • 1 – 3 high resolution photos (at least 1MB each) of your float taken in landscape mode (width longer than height of photo).
  • Your submission form – Please include in the body of the email: your first name, your age, and your answer to the question, “What’s your favourite thing about Abbotsford that inspired you to make this float?”
